The round birthday quilt nr 7

This is another quilt from the cycle "for a round birthday". This time I was sewing it for my friend, with whom, as we counted, we have known each other for 30 years! This is amazing. As teenagers, we were very close to each other. Later, our paths diverged, each went their own way, but we always stayed in touch. And that's what I value the most in this relationship: we do not have to see each other often, we do not talk on the phone every day, but as we are "on the links" we have something to talk about and we are happy about it :).

And returning to the quilts this time, I made my task a little easier and I was going to use the "quilt as you go" technique.  In other words: I was quilting each block separately, then I connected them together and finally sewn back. The pressing of seams wasn't fun, but somehow it worked :).

To już kolejny quilt z cyklu "na okrągłe urodziny". Tym razem szyłam go dla mojej przyjaciółki, z którą, jak policzyłyśmy znamy się już 30 lat! To jest niesamowite. Jako nastolatki byłyśmy bardzo blisko siebie. Później nasze drogi rozeszły się, każda poszła w swoją stronę, ale zawsze pozostałyśmy w kontakcie. I to najbardziej cenię w tej relacji: nie musimy się często widywać, nie rozmawiamy przez telefon codziennie, ale jak już jesteśmy "na łączach" to mamy o czym gadać i cieszymy się z tego :).
A wracając do quiltu tym razem trochę sobie ułatwiłam zadanie i szyłam techniką "quilt as you go", czyli w skrócie: pikowałam każdy blok z osobna, potem je łączyłam, a na końcu przyszyłam tył. Mocną upierdliwością było rozprasowywanie szwów, ale jakoś się udało :).

Kontrola jakości

Top is a real mix of fabrics of different designers: Anna Maria Horner, Amy Buttler, Joel Dewberry, Heather Bailey.  I wanted something springy, energetic, so these fabrics seemed to me the best choice :).

Top to prawdziwy mix  tkanin różnych projektantów: Anna Maria Horner, Amy Buttler, Joel Dewberry, Heather Bailey. Tak mi się chciało już czegoś wiosennego, energetycznego, więc te tkaniny wydawały mi się najlepszym wyborem :). 

 

The background is a recycled fabric. Flowers, a lot of flowers...

Tył to tkanina z odzysku. Kwiaty, dużo kwiatów ...

And the label. Of course it's handmade.

No i metka. Oczywiście ręcznie robiona. Tym razem trochę ludzików :).

Na okrągłe urodziny - Mandala! / For the round birthday - Mandala quilt!

Kolejny quilt z cyklu "Na okrągłe urodziny" skończony!
To pierwszy w tym roku  quilt z tego cyklu. A, że koleżanki mi się starzeją to nie będzie to ostatni quilt z tej serii  😁. W tym roku sporo 40-tek przede mną....

Next quilt from "Round birthday" cycle was finished!
It's the first quilt in the serie this year. And as my friends are aging, this will not be the last quilt in this serie 😁. This year, a lot of 40 in front of us....


Przez to, że sporo czasu poświęciłam na przygotowaniach teoretycznych, sam proces cięcia, zszywania, pikowania itp. przebiegał szybko. Do szycia tego quiltu wykorzystałam metodę "quilt-as-you-go", która polega na pikowaniu mniejszych bloków quiltu w czasie ich zszywania, a następnie na ich pozszywaniu i przeszyciu wzdłuż linii łączeń - tak żeby połączyć pikowane bloki razem z tyłem quiltu. To tak w skrócie.
Przy tak dużej narzucie, 220x240 cm, ta metoda okazała się bardzo pomocna.

Before I started this project I spent a lot of time for theoretical reflections and thanks to that cuting fabrics, sewing them and quilting were very fast.
This time I adoptted the "quilt-as-you-go" method. It means that you quilt smaller blocks of the quilt and then quilting them and stitching along the connection lines -  so that they connect the blocks together with the back of the quilts. Briefly.
This quilt was large - 220x240 cm so this method was helpful.

Dużym problemem było znalezienie miejsca w domu gdzie mogłabym rozłożyć tak duży quilt. Latem rozkładam się na tarasie, ale teraz jest trochę za zimno.
Po długich przemyśleniach i przemeblowaniu całej jadalni, miejsce się znalazło, a quilt został złożony.

Big problem was the place at home where I could put down such a big quilt. In the summer I arrange my workspace at the terrace but now there is too cold outside.
After a long thoughts and changing furniture place in the dining room, place was found and quilt was put together.

Potem jeszcze zdjęcie - też spore wyzwanie. Tym razem wykorzystałam drążek u sąsiadki :).
No i gotowe!

And then pictures - that was a quite challenge. This time I've used sticks at my neighbour garden :).
